During my long break today from work and class, I had a scheduled meeting with Anna and Joyce from ESLP about becoming their intern. I met Anna and Joyce during the last week of winter quarter. I was training them on how to use their dslr and audio recorder for their org correctly. Training them was fun. It didn’t feel like work; we had a good time and cracked a few jokes here and there. Then Joyce just asked out of the blue, “hey do you want to believe intern?”

Funny stuff. Today was no different and we had a similar vibe. I felt so comfortable speaking to them. Lots of smiles and laughter today. I am so excited that they want me to be their intern. I wish I knew about this internship a long time ago. It’s all good, at least I got an internship right? What I will be doing is helping the Action Resource Teams (ARTS) create social documentaries.

This is pretty tight! I get to incorporate both of my majors; film and sociology. I never thought about creating social docs until last year. I remember people telling me long time ago that I should make social docs because of my majors. I never gave it thought til recently.

If I’m not doing production in a film class, I definitely found a way to do production through an internship, a great one for that matter. I can’t wait to get started on this internship. I’m really looking forward in meeting and networking with a lot of individuals. I’m glad that Anna and Joyce want me on their team. Although its going to be one busy quarter, it will be worth it. Your boy just got himself an internship!!!!!!

It’s the first day of the spring quarter and it was one busy day. I started my day at work. First day back and what do you know, our computers are not working. This is going to be an interesting day already. I can already hear the complaints from students that their computers are not working. I feel bad for my friend Daniel cuz he’s the person who takes care of those issues. I already know his email will be full with kids hitting him up about this issue.

I only had one class today but that was later in the day. I had a lot of errands to run. Good thing I had a three hour gap. Coming back from doing errands, I had a meeting with the ladies from ESLP.

After the meeting, I got a few texts messages from my friends that were in Film 170B asking me why I was not in Film 172 with them. It was due to a technicality and a piece of paper. Kinda long story. It was nice of my friends to hit me up though.

The only class I had was Film 136A. This class explores the theory of experimental film. Very ambiguous and abstract. UCSC would make this course a mandated class huh. I had an idea of what film was here during my orientation. My Advisor showcased a film about a girl standing in a bucket. Yea, real artsy right? One of the worst things I’ve seen in my life. That short film made my penis soft.

While in class today, I sat and chilled with my homies Irvin, Nick, Laura, Cheska, Julia and Terse. Irvin and I kept crackin jokes about the film that we were watching, Voyage a La Lune. This film was made in 1902. Pretty advanced at its time. This film was about a group of scientists going to the moon. They looked like wizards to me.

Viewing this film, it can be automatically seen as a narrative. It breaks all the rules that make an experimental film. But, you have to remember, this was made in 1902. Back in those days film was used for science, not entertainment. Also, people who did film only filmed stuff like a moving train. So going from a train to a full narrative with transitions, edits, effects, etc…yea I’m sure George Melies, director of film, experimented the hell out of this film back then. Very entertaining film. I’ve seen this like ten times. Thanks community college and intro film class.

Tomorrow will be a busier day so it should be even more interesting. I’ll keep ya’ll posted.

It has been two long days since CTIA and the announcement of the EVO 3D. If you are an owner of the EVO 4G or have played with one, you may have noticed the kick stand on the back. Some may think it was a novelty, while the rest of us loved the hell out of our kick stand. It made life easier as we could watch video, view pictures, do apps, and charge our phones, to name of few, hands free while the EVO was on it’s kick stand. I think the wow factor is when you bust out your EVO while people are around. They don’t really know what kind of phone you have cuz it’s pretty big and for some people who just don’t know assume it’s an iPhone (weird right?). Then you turn your EVO, flick out the kick stand, it makes the infamous CLICK sound, and you place it on the table to stand. From there, the observers take a look and say,

“Wow that thing stands up?!”

“What phone is that?”

“That’s so cool”

Aw yes, that Wow factor. Now with the EVO 3D coming out, that Wow factor from the kick stand will be no more. Instead, Sprint and HTC are banking on the the 3D function of this phone. Many (including myself) was very upset to see that there was no kick stand on the device. I read many articles and blogs that day it was released and no mention of why they took out the kick stand. A few youtube videos that I watched asked to question but the Sprint rep avoided the question.

Now it has come to my attention that the reason why there is no kick stand is because there was “no room” on the phone. Due to the dual cameras, and the battery being moved lower of the device, and not wanting to compromise form factor and size, HTC decided to take it out. As you can see in the picture, the dual cameras take most of the space of the phone. The battery is position much lower than the EVO 4G and now there is no room for anything in between. oOoOo, so that’s the reason. I say, f’ that!!! Take out the dual cameras or re-position them to go horizontal not vertical, or give us one good camera and ditch the whole 3D nonsense.

3D is even a worst gimmic than HSPA+ being touted out as 4G.  I would rather have a kick stand than some stupid 3D technology. The specs alone on this phone will sell the device; just make good software for it and it will be off the hook. And everyone wonders why companies like Apple and Sony stay dominant with their media devices (iPhone & PlayStation), it’s all about software. Anyways, to calm us angry kick stand lovers down, HTC developed a kick stand case (really??) to fill in that void that the EVO 3D lacks. And for a reasonable exchange of dead presidents it could be ours after launch. I feel that they should include it with the phone. Hell they’re taking away one of the best things that was on a cell phone. Oh well. But another chain effect to the kick stand case is that it covers the usb port, so you cannot charge your phone while on the kick stand, lame…Unless they mirror the design of the case so that the usb port is facing up not down, but we will find out  during launch.

Overall, like I said before, the EVO 3D will not disappoint in specs. It’s a power house of a phone and I will get one, but I really miss the kick stand…Oh well.

Last year Sprint and HTC made a huge announcement introducing the EVO 4G. The EVO 4G was a huge leap in Android and within cell phones because of all the features that it had such as front facing camera, hdmi out, the infamous kickstand, power and that fact that it was 4G. Now that CTIA is in full swing, today Sprint had blocked off a few hours to make a huge presentation.

This huge announcement was the HTC EVO 3D. This phone had a few leaks this past week with the spec sheet going around the web. The leaked specs matched what was officially announced:

• 1.2 GHz dual-core Snapdragon processor Qualcomm’s MSM8660)
• 4.3 qHD screen (960 x 540)
• Dual 5 mega pixel camera (3D video and stills) with auto focus on the back with dual LED flash
• 1080p video play back on 2D videos and 720p on 3D videos
• 1.3 mega pixel front facing camera
• HD recording in 2D and 3D up to 720p
• 1 Gig of Ram
• up to 32 gigs of external storage
• Bluetooth 3.0
• 1730 mAh battery
• 4G WiMax

Those are a few specs of this new super phone joining the EVO. The EVO 3D looks like an EVO Shift 4G with a 4.3″ screen. They have similar speaker grills. I am not a big fan of that kind of speaker grill style. I like the EVO 4G’s speaker grill much better.

I don’t really consider this a sequel to the EVO 4G. I feel that this phone is another phone of it’s own. It’s highlighting it’s 3D capabilities, similar to the EVO Shift 4G as it highlighted the keyboard. Although the specs seem amazing, there are a few things I wish would have been improved. First, the front facing camera should have been beefed up to 2 mega pixels or higher. Second, internal storage can be upped more. I think at least 8 or 16 would have been great. With the addition of a 32 gig external card this device would have plenty of space for multi-media that will be downloaded and used. Third, 3D, I know many technologies are using 3D, but I don’t see how big of a benefit and leap 3D would be on a mobile device. I can see how it works for the Nintendo 3DS because everything will be developed to take advantage and showcase it’s 3D abilities. For a phone, many developer would have to crank out a lot of 3D content. Plus, I just don’t see the use of 3D pictures and video. I’m not big on 3D as you can tell. I don’t see the logistics to it.

Lastly, the kickstand!!! Where the hell is the kickstand! I use that thing like crazy on my EVO. It’s great to just have your EVO up on it’s stand while your scroll away from picture to picture, apps, contacts, etc. HTC put the kickstand on the EVO 4G because it was a multi-media device and it would come in handy watching movies. Same thing goes for the EVO 3D. They are pushing 3D movies via Blockbuster Online, 3D still images, and 3D video capture. On that 4.3 inch screen you definitely need to stand that thing up and watch away. Hell, HTC started putting kickstands on all their multi-media devices (HD7, Surround, Thunderbolt, and EVO 4G). I say take out the two cameras, give us one good solid 10 mega pixel camera and put a kick stand on the bitch!

Speaking of cameras, it looks like the two cameras on the back poke out just like the 8 mega pixel camera on the original EVO. Overall, I feel that this is one solid device. Sprint and HTC has done it again this year at CTIA. This is going to be one powerhouse of a phone and the EVO name does not disappoint. I would say this is my next phone. All I want is kickstand and it would be perfect. Come on HTC, how hard is it to put the kickstand on this thing…
